This Sunday I’m thankful for The Dying Earth.
The red Sun stories of Jack Vance are absolute marvels! If you’ve never read them, do yourself a favour and take a look. You can start as small as you want since his collection includes everything from short stories to novels.
The second book is a collection of stories, all by other authors, placed in the same setting. They vary in length and quality. But all of them add something that’s worth reading.
As always, I recommend you look for the two books above at your local small book store. But if you have to go the online route you can find Tales of the Dying Earth HERE and Songs of the Dying Earth THERE.
There are also two great games set in the same world. The earlier of the two is by Pelgrane Press. The more recent foray is by Goodman Games. Although quite different one from the other, both are really good treatments of playing in the always chaotic, often hilarious setting of the Dying Earth.
