Trick or Treat

This past Sunday I’m thankful for Xenos Rampant, Scenario Juliet: Recovery Detail.

I was happy to find this post on Mad Lemmy’s Painting Blog: Xenos Rampant: Kindred vs Tau, Mission Juliet that describes he and his friend’s experience playing the senario. It sounded like a fun time so I got myself organized.

I hosted the game at last Friday’s meet of Trumpeter in Burnaby. It’s early in the month but I thought that the October game should have a Halloween vibe of some kind. So I picked up a box of KitKat Scary Friends minis. They were placed as the objective markers. And yes, some were devoured mid-game.

It was a four-player game, two per side, and the forces were 24 points each side with two sub-detachments per force; one player controlled their side’s Transport and the other ran their Commander (Heavy Infantry with Heavy Weapon). Other than that the units were basic Light and Berserk Infantry

The die roll determined end of game on turn nine. Which was rather perfect as all the KitKats had been grabbed and both sides were heading toward moving them off the board.

In the end the other side pulled off a win by grabbing seven of the objectives to our five. We did eliminate more of their units, but not enough to matter.

Two of the highlights of the game were Velma being the sole survivor of the Scooby Gang, defeating two back-to-back charges by our Berserk Infantry.

And at the rocky hill in the middle of the table, Danger 5 was set upon by two of their units of Time Banditos in a see-saw fight of charges and counter-charges that ultimately cost us our whole unit of commandos.

Not even Colonel Chestbridge’s Sit Down Gun could save them against the Sombrero Armadillos with all their laspistols.
