This Sunday I’m thankful for scary lighthouse stories.
I tracked these two anthologies down a few months ago.
The first, Lighthouse Horrors, is a wonderful collection. Published in 1993, its heavy hitters for me are Kipling, Bradbury, Vance and Lansdale. In addition to those authors it also includes Poe’s last story — left unfinished at his death — here completed by Robert Bloch. On top of them, you get another dozen tales by authors more and less unknown to me. I’ve only just started it but it is a marvel.
The second book, Lighthouses: An Anthology of Dark Tales, is newer. Published in 2015, all of it’s authors are unfamiliar to me. For what it’s worth though, it’s rated around 4 out of 5 online. So I have high-ish hopes for it. I’ll dive into it once I finish reading ‘Horrors.
This is the first post in what will be an irregular ongoing series about all manner of topics relating to lighthouses. Because, obviously.
